Ghana Glass Beads: The majority of beads in Ghana are made in by the Ashanti and Krobo people in the Krobo region. Beads still play a very prevalent role in modern Krobo culture. For example, beads are used in ceremonies of birth, coming of age, marriage, or death and are generously displayed in festivals and parades.
The stem of a cassava leaf is used to make the hole. The beads are baked in a furnace causing the glass to melt together and cassava stem to burn, leaving only the grainy textured "sand glass" bead behind.
